What are some things you’ve implemented at home to make your life feel more “normal” these days?

.
Freelancing (and running a business of any kind) is tough. The good news is, we’re in this together!
.
I’m putting together a portal that allows me to share all my lessons and resources from over the years and give you a boatload of templates you can use to grow your freelance biz.
.
It will also be a place I can log my #vanlife journey for anyone interested in working remotely while they travel.
.
Will update sooooon!
This place is pretty awesome. . When I say “this This place is pretty awesome.
.
When I say “this place” I not only mean the place I’m sitting that you see in the pics with the incredible views, but also this place in time, life, business and all that other woo woo stuff that’s not really my style to get into ;)
.
This is one of the few days that I’m not working, building or creating. I know we all post these awesome pics on Instagram of our highlight reels of life, and this is no exception.
.
Most of my days, I can be found in front of a computer for 8 - 10 hours putting out fires, programming incredibly designed websites, and bouncing ideas around with clients on how we can grow their business.
.
There’s other days it’s not all sunshine, days there are meetings with Lawyers, deadlines being missed, and emails going unanswered. Days where it’s just you. Where things fall apart, and you are the only one to put them back together.
.
The last 3 years have been the most difficult (health issues, surgeries...) of my life, and simultaneously the most rewarding. I’ve met support networks I would never have come across without the introductions of great friends (@mariepoulin). Had the privilege of working with some of the best clients, and travelled to places I never would have seen hadn’t it been for my line of work (web development ie: living my life on the internet). .
In an attempt to break the cycle of posting just the “highlight reel” of life, I’ll try to be more diligent about posting the work involved in getting to those (these) highlights. .
This stuff is hard, but we can do hard things.
.
A huge shoutout to @thebellemethod for inviting me on her retreat, and experiencing my first day in Muskoka after 38 years lol!
Van update! 3 layers of insulation are in (except Van update!
3 layers of insulation are in (except on the ceiling). Next up... windows and fan. It’s a little nerve wracking to cut holes in the van, but I’m now an official “YouTube expert” so I think it will go well.
Framing and windows up next while I consult with an electrician. Then it’s solar panels and power bank!
She’s coming together nicely.

Sub floors are removed, rust spots are all sanded Sub floors are removed, rust spots are all sanded and and primer applied. Van Diesel is officially fully stripped down and ready to be built out.
.
I love building things. I especially love projects that challenge the hell out of me. Businesses, websites, and client portals. This is definitely a departure, but there are so many similarities between this van build and the online properties that I’ve built over the last decade.
.
Don’t get me wrong, building things in the digital space is still my first love, but sometimes you got to get your hands dirty and dig into something physical.
.
The intention is for this to be my “home away from home”, road office, and podcast studio while I travel through North America running my 💯 % remote company.
.
The major challenge I’m facing is the ability to work from anywhere with reliable internet, so the amenities in the van will be important, but most important will be my ability to access the internet reliably from almost anywhere. A LOT of research is going into this, and will update you all along the way.
.
Cheers 🥂 to hitting the road and embracing freedom.
.
PS: vlog is on the way, I promise!
This week on the Freelance Freedom Podcast we dive This week on the Freelance Freedom Podcast we dive deep.
I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Dr. Sherry Walling of @zenfounder to discuss how we as entrepreneurs can maintain mental health in businesses that feel like chaos a lot of the time. Dive in to this 1 hour episode to check out some of the following topics we cover. ⭐️ Depression and isolation as an entrepreneur/freelancer ⭐️ Suicide. ⭐️
Coping skills, and mental energy management ⭐️
Burnout ⭐️
Grief, loss, and preparing your business for your loved ones when you’re gone ⭐️
And most importantly, how we can better take pause and celebrate our successes 🎉 ⭐️ 🎤Find the link directly in my profile, or search Freelance Freedom on your favourite podcast service. ⭐️ ⚠️ Warning! We talk in depth about suicide in this episode, so if you’re not able to listen at this time in your life, no worries, we’ll be here when you need us :)

This is the gem I settled on after searching high and low for the perfect conversion van. Windows in the back, extended roof, 2014 Mercedes Sprinter with 144 inch wheel base. Higher mileage, but it’s in great condition. 👍 can’t wait to rip up the floor boards and get started on the insulation. .
.
I’ll be documenting the conversation process as well as more about my work and podcast life in my stories. It will be a mish-mash of running a business, mentoring freelancers, and converting my van for travelling around North America.
.
.
Please let me know what questions you have about any of the above, as well as all things working remotely, as I suspect I’ll soon become a master in that area as well :)
